Sharia supervision is considered the basic pillar that distinguishes the work of Islamic financial institutions, as it ensures compliance with the provisions and principles of Sharia that must be observed by officials and all employees. It also contributes to reassuring the public, including customers and others, of the legitimacy of the activity carried out by these Islamic institutions. The most important tasks of Sharia oversight are to examine contracts, agreements, policies, products, transactions, incorporation contracts, basic systems, and reports issued by internal audit departments, as well as circulars and reports of inspections carried out by the Central Bank.
Sharia supervision and auditing is carried out by independent bodies of jurists specialized in the jurisprudence of transactions, who are entrusted with directing, reviewing and supervising the activities of Islamic financial institutions to ensure their commitment to the provisions and principles of Islamic Sharia, and their fatwas and decisions are binding on the institution.
